A bullet is fired with a speed of 100m/s in order to hit a target 100m away. If g = 10m/s2, the gun should be aimed

Question : A bullet is fired with a speed of 100m/s in order to hit a target 100m away. If g = 10m/s2, the gun should be aimed

(a) Directly Towards the Target

(b) 5 cm above the target

(c) 10 cm above the target

(d) 15cm above the target

Answer : The Right option is (b)

Solution :

The time taken by the bullet to reach the target

t = d/v

t = 100/1000 = 0.1s

Now, in this time the total vertical distance travelled by the bullet is

h = (1/2) gt2

h = (1/2)(10)(0.1)2

h = 0.05m or 5 cm

Therefore, it has to be aimed 5 cm above the target.
